Is it alright to caulk the gap where the brick hits wood siding around my home.?
I would sure like to do this. Wasp get up in there and it seems like it would be a good idea but it looks like it has never been cailked and I could see it being becouse you could trap wetness up there and do more damage than good. Should I do it? Is there any benifit to doing other than keeping the wasp out? What type of caulk should I use? Thanks! I really need help with this.

Yes, by all means. Don’t use a silicone caulk that cannot be painted. Use a caulk that will paint and blend in with your painted siding. Wasp and moisture barrier.

it is a 1970′s traditional style house with a carport. The current color of the sides and back of the house is a mauv-ish (sp) color, and we also have white shutters and white trim.

No, i don’t want to paint it brick red, the front of the house has brick, and the bricks are red. Kind of a permant thing, just wanting to paint the sides and back of the house a different color. again, the front of the house is BRICK, not the color brick red.

The siding is brick red (sort of a dark barn red), the trim and shutters, white. I would like to paint the two main entrance doors in a complementary contrasting color, but haven’t come up with any good ideas. Y’all have any?

I would go with a green shade that would stand up well to the dark red. Either something going towards an olive green tone or even a very dark forest green, if you like the looks of those colors together. The other possibility if you want something more ‘striking’ is a dark burnt orange/rust color or a very deep and dark gold tone. Think ‘fall colors’ and you should be able to consider a lot of different possibilities. Your house sounds beautiful!

What color vinyl siding could I put on the second story of my house with colonial red brick on the first?
I have a typical two story colonial type house with the red brick all around the first floor and white siding on the second story and black roof. I am going to do a new roof and gutters this spring. I’m thinking I may reside the second story and go for a totally new look, but I’m not good at that sort of thing. The windows in the house are white vinyl frame, garage door is white and only a year old(don’t want to paint it). The red brick also has the occasional whitewash look brick and black brick here and there. I’d like to get away from a black roof, but it isn’t that important energy wise as I live in a very shaded area. With the red brick and the white frame windows being the constant, anyone have any ideas for siding, roof, shutter, trim, and gutter color combos?

Shutters could be a reddish color that is in the same family as the brick. Front door should probably be white to match garage door and window, black or brown hardware on front door and maybe even fake hardware on garage doors. Siding should be a earth tone. A light or dark shade of beige, grey as long as it looks good with the brick.
