Question by mrriskey007: I need to repair a brick on an outdoor firepit that I broke. Can someone help me?
The firepit is round and submerged in the concrete about 18″. The brick i broke off is one of the ones around the top “lip” of the fireplace. It’s rounded on the edges and cut in the shape of a capitol “A” almost (if you can imagine). I need to either fix it myself or pay someone to fix it for me. I live in so cal near hermosa/redondo/manhattan beach.

you have 2 options:
you can buy a bag of mortar mix [NOT concrete], mix up a little and push the mud into the cracks and under the brick to set it, the handle of a spoon on edge will get the mix in deep, then use the spoon edge to smooth the mix, wipe away excess with a spounge
you can buy a caulking tube of fireplace repair cement and caulk it into place, but this will stand out, it never matches up in color to mortar.
If you hire some one to come in and lay 1 brick in place, it will be expensive, it you can find someone willing to mess with it. My dad owns a masonry company and would charge several hundred dollars to do it, as it just is not worth the time and effort to drive over for 1 brick. Personally, I would buy the mortar mix, do it myself and store the mortar so if I needed it again in the future I would have it, but make sure to keep it dry
