Question by Brown Eyes: How to clean soot covered bricks inside a chimney breast?
Does anyone know how to clean off the soot from a very old chimney breast that I have just opened up? I have used hydrocholoric acid cleaner, but it’s not got all the soot off. Should I just keep going with it? Hope someone can help? Many thanks.
I am talking about the area inside the chimney breast that is bricked, not the actual chimney itself. That’s being done on Saturday. Thank you for all your tips so far. And Jeff, I’ll try the bathroom foam tomorrow! thanks!

have you tried phoning a chimney sweeper
although your chimney is not enclosed he might know what to do or might be able to have a look himself
